Kent Island - Stevensville and Chester

Stevensville and Chester are specifically consensus-designated places. But several other communities flourish, most of which are unincorporated. The fishing community of Kent Narrows is partially located on the island. Stevensville and Chester are often considered towns due to the fact that they have many of the characteristics of most towns in the area.

On Kent Island’s western shore you can find Metapeake County Park. Here you can find boat ramps, beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and a 900 foot long fishing pier. The mystic Bloody Point Bar Lighthouse can be seen from the southern point of Kent Island.

Another ideal spot is the Terrapin Beach Nature Park, found just north of the Bay Bridge. This park offers a one mile nature trail, pond, two observation blinds, and a boardwalk to the Chesapeake Bay. The park is located off MD 18, inside the Chesapeake Bay Business Park.

The Horsehead Wetlands Center, a 500 acre sanctuary, is found just east of Kent Island. Well-guided paths take you around six waterfowl ponds, each representing a different wetland habitat. The visitor center has a large picture window overlooking a waterfowl pond, fun hands-on exhibits for children, and an aquarium with all sorts of living creatures from the Chesapeake Bay. All different species of waterfowl are represented at the Center, and the whole place serves as a home for wild waterfowl that visit the sanctuary.
